Racing Engineering driver under observationVenezuelan driver Ernesto Viso miraculously survived a massive accident during the GP2 support-race at Magny Cours on Saturday.
Spectators feared the worst when his Dallara went airborne on the run to the Nurburgring chicane
and disintegrated after it landed cockpit-first following contact on lap one.
“Ernesto is fine after his horrific crash,” stated Racing Engineering Team Principal Alfonso D'Orlean. “We haven’t yet got the official report from the FIA doctors but we have been told that he’s conscious, talking and out of danger although they will keep him under observation.”
The race was stopped for nearly an hour while medical crews attended to Viso, who had appeared to have struck the concrete barrier with his crash helmet.
But incredibly to those who have studied replays of the incident, he is not seriously injured but has been transported from the circuit medical centre to the general hospital at Nevers where he will stay overnight under observation.
