Admits he is exceeding all expectationsChampionship leader Lewis Hamilton claimed it is too early to talk of winning the title in his rookie season.
The 22-year-old won Sunday's U.S Grand Prix to claim his second victory in a row and move ten points ahead of team-mate
Fernando Alonso in the standings.
But after the race the rookie Brit said talk of him winning the driver's title is premature, despite having finished on the podium in all seven races he has competed in.
"I wouldn't say my goals have changed," said Hamilton after finishing 1.5 seconds ahead of Alonso in Indianapolis. "I came into the season with an open mind, just trying to do a good job.
"We are seven races into the championship and I have to be smart and realise we are running at the front and there is a possibility to win the championship but it is far, far too early to think about it or get hopes up.
"We have to remain consistent and keep on winning, but as many points as possible is good for me and the team.
"
Hamilton admitted that his astounding early success has even taken him by surprise: "Coming into the season you have to be realistic, this is the pinnacle of the sport and I never expected anything.
"I hoped maybe I would get a podium at some point I have been on podium in seven races, it is insane. I find it hard to come to terms with it. I am focusing on trying to enjoy it, I don't think anyone expected me to do as well as I am doing."
Alonso has also been stunned by Hamilton's fast start but the double world champion claims he is happy with his position as Formula One heads back to Europe for the French Grand Prix next month.
"It has been a surprise for me and a surprise for everybody to see him doing so well and leading the championship at this point," said Alonso. "But I have confidence. We only did seven races, 10 to go... the championship will be decided at the end."
