Good news from the Sacre-Coeur hospital in MontrealRobert Kubica is expected to be released from hospital in Montreal on Monday morning after sustaining only a sprained ankle and slight concussion in his horrific crash during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old
crashed heavily on lap 27 when he lost control of his BMW Sauber car, hit a wall, lifted off and barrel-rolled across the circuit before smashing into the railings on the other side of the track. He was treated at the circuit and then airlifted to the Sacre-Coeur hospital in Montreal.
Despite widespread reports on Sunday evening that he had a broken leg, the hospital later stated he had escaped with no more than minor injuries. The hospital confirmed he will be released after a precautionary overnight observation.
The hospital statement said: "Following the violent accident during today's Canadian GP, Robert Kubica was transferred by helicopter to Sacre-Coeur hospital in Montreal.
"When he arrived at the emergency care unit Kubica was placed in the hands of Dr Ronald Denis, chief medical officer of the Canadian Grand Prix, and also head of the surgical department and trauma department at the hospital.
"Mr Kubica has been through all the necessary medical checks and there do not appear to be any serious consequences as a result of the accident. He is suffering from light concussion, as well as a sprained right ankle. He is in a stable condition and his life is not considered to be in danger.
"He will remain in hospital overnight for observation and his condition will be checked again tomorrow (Monday) morning."
