Paul Ricard - Renault - Testing Day 3After two days’ preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix, Renault changed to a set-up more suited to the Canadian track during its third day of testing on the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit in the south of France.
The major attraction
of this circuit is that it offers some 150 different layouts allowing teams to prepare for events that are as radically opposed as the Monaco Grand Prix and that of Canada – all in the same week. This meant a bit of work yesterday evening in the team’s garage to modify the car’s basic set-up, and change from the Monaco configuration to one more adapted to testing for the Canadian event.
Today, Heikki Kovalainen, who was in the car for the second day running, drove on the 5.256-km circuit and concentrated on aero testing and his car’s set-up for the Canadian event, plus other races to come.
The Finn completed his development programme without problems despite indifferent weather and a fairly strong wind. After covering 89 laps Kovalainen said he was satisfied with his day’s work. He set the third-quickest time in 1m 29.070s and is now looking forward to tackling the most glamorous race on the F1 calendar.
Giancarlo Fisichella will be in R27 car tomorrow for the final day’s testing on the French circuit. Like his team-mate he will run on the layout E1b-SCV2 in Canadian set-up.
