Hirvonen leads Monte Carlo Rally on IRC debut
Mikko Hirvonen capped an impressive competition debut for the M-Sport Fiesta Super 2000 by completing the opening leg of Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo with a 41.9-second lead over reigning Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke.

After SS4: Sarrazin punctures
Peugeot driver Stephane Sarrazin (pictured) lost about three minutes with a puncture on the final stage of the day, meaning that Ford´s Mikko Hirvonen now extends his lead to 41.9 seconds. After SS3: Hirvonen quickest again
Ford´s Mikko Hirvonen has gone quickest again on SS3 to give the all-new Fiesta (pictured) a 35-second lead of the Monte Carlo Rally over Peugeot´s Stephane Sarrazin. His team mate Sebastien Ogier lost more than two minutes after damaging a wheel, which he said was because of snow placed on the racing line by spectators. Kopecky loses time with puncture on SS1
Skoda driver Jan Kopecky (pictured) has lost three minutes on the opening stage with a front-right puncture. The Czech driver noticed the problem at the start of the stage and stopped to change the wheel, finishing the stage 38th fastest. He now faces an uphill struggle to secure a top position.

Tyre choice the key to afternoon stages
Conditions on the opening two stages of the Monte Carlo Rally were as tricky as always, with rain rather than ice greeting competitors on the first two stages. During the second stage, there was thick fog for 12 of the 45.17 kilometres. With a strong possibility of snow in the afternoon, the drivers are currently debating which is the correct tyre choice for the afternoon.

Robert Kubica retires from Monte Carlo Rally
Formula One star Robert Kubica’s Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo is over almost before it had begun after he retired from Tuesday evening’s prologue stage with a broken engine.

Kubica, who was due to tackle the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event for the first time in a Renault Clio R3, stopped during the 8.83-kilometre stage.

Magalhaes first to tackle leg one
The opening stage of the 78th Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo gets underway later this morning with Portuguese driver Bruno Magalhaes set to run first on the road in his Peugeot 207 Super 2000.

Magalhaes, 29, is making his debut on the famous event as part of a planned eight-round attack on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Gardemeister tops Monte Carlo prologue
Toni Gardemeister has won the prologue stage of the 78th Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo, the opening round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Driving an Abarth Grande Punto, Gardemeister and co-driver Tomi Tuominen completed the 8.83-kilometre climb from Lente up the Col de l’Echarasson to the finish at the foot of the Col de Gaudissart in a time of 6:54:2.
