Stobart drivers stay in the points chase

Ford World Rally Team driver Mikko Hirvonen and co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen lie third after today's opening leg of Rally de España. Sordo in glittering form on home soil
The Citroen World Rally Team enjoyed a faultless run on the first day of the 2009 Rally Catalunya. Dani Sordo and co-driver Marc Marti emerged in front after the opening stage and delighted local rally fans by reaching this evening's overnight halt in Salou at the top of the leaderboard.

Dakar : The road-book under construction
After around a hundred days of pre-reconnaissance on site, and long hours of working on maps, the teams of the rally have now entered the writing phase of the road-book. The first part has already been set on paper.

Sordo and Loeb take control in Catalonia
A flying start for Dani Sordo and co-driver Marc Marti has seen them take control at the top of the provisional order at Rally Spain in Catalonia. A score of three consecutive fastest times enabled the Spanish pair to check into lunchtime service ahead of their teammates Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena who follow in second place.

Little support for Nelson Piquet
Nelson Piquet may have escaped any sanctions from his role in the Singapore 2008 crash-gate affair, but there remains some doubt that he will be able to return to sport. Former racer turned commentator Martin Brundle recently claimed that Piquet is now “unemployable”.

Kobayashi enjoys unexpected F1 debut
With Timo Glock feeling unwell on Friday at Suzuka, Toyota test and reserve driver Kamui Kobayashi made his Formula One debut in practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. The team expect Glock back behind the wheel of the TF109 in time for Saturday practice, but in the meantime it was a chance to evaluate GP2 regular Kobayashi in tricky conditions.

The opening day of practice for the Japanese Grand Prix was severely compromised by rain with most opting to save tyres and restrict running to a minimum. Adrian Sutil and Tonio Liuzzi ended the afternoon first and third respectively for the Mercedes-powered Force India team, while for many it was the first time at Suzuka as they looked to get to grips with the 5.807km ... A near washout at Suzuka
The rain returned ahead of Friday afternoon practice ensuring that the second 90-minute practice session was a frustrating affair resulting in very limited mileage for the 20 runners. With just three sets of intermediate and four sets of full wet tyres permitted over the weekend, most opted to stay dry in the pits rather than lapping the Suzuka circuit.

The opening practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix saw Heikki Kovalainen set the pace on a drying circuit for McLaren Mercedes with a best lap of 1:40.356s around the classic 5.807km Suzuka circuit.

Normally such announcements receive little attention, but with the team’s future uncertain ahead of the Japanese-based parent firm signing off the budget in November, the announcement could be a positive sign.

Replacing Raikkonen a tough decision admits Domenicali
The Formula One headlines have been dominated by confirmation that Fernando Alonso is to join Ferrari next season. Speaking in Japan, team principal Stefano Domenicali was keen to stress that the team focus remains on the final races of the season, ahead of Alonso's arrival next year, and that the decision to replace Kimi Raikkonen with Alonso was a hard one to make.
